True Care Celebrates 30 Years Serving Women in Natrona County and Beyond

Thirty-year-old Lisa walked into True Care Women’s Resource Center believing abortion was her only option. Her husband’s drug addiction took him into rehab and away from the family, and though our patient acknowledged that was a positive step – for him to get clean – his absence left her to raise their three children on her own, even if temporarily.

“I don’t think I can manage four,” she told her Advocate.

The ultrasound revealed she was about six weeks along, so the Nurse scheduled her to return the next week. Lisa didn’t come to that appointment. We prayed steadily for her, and more than two weeks later, one of our nurses received a call.

“I’d like to get that other ultrasound if I still can,” Lisa said, and the nurse quickly made an appointment for her for that afternoon during Lisa’s lunch break.

When our patient returned for her ultrasound, she said she was still struggling with what to do. Her husband was pushing for abortion due to their circumstances, but Lisa tearfully told her Advocate, “I just don’t think I can do that. I’m just not really sure what to do.”

The ultrasound revealed Lisa was nearly ten weeks. The baby moved its little body and its tiny legs. Lisa smiled at the image. “Oh, look! It’s really dancing!” she exclaimed.

Afterward, Lisa told her Advocate, “I’m going to parent. I just can’t go through an abortion. I learned the other day that my mother had an abortion – something I never knew – and she told me she still struggles to this day. I just can’t do that.”

Her caring Advocate offered to pray with her and Lisa agreed. Afterward, Lisa learned about True Care’s Baby & Me Too program, specially geared for mothers with other children who need extra support – mothers like Lisa.

Organization History

True Care has been part of the Casper community for 30 years. Opening its doors in 1987 at a small blue and white house on Grant Street, the founders of what was then The Caring Center had women like Lisa in mind. We’ve been available for the Lisas of our community ever since. Through the years, the organization has steadily grown and changed. Women had to conduct their own pregnancy tests in the early days and no ultrasounds were available then. Over the years and through two additional name changes, as well as relocations, new services were offered, including the on-site parenting program Baby & Me for first-time moms and now Baby & Me Too for women like Lisa. More than 10 years ago, True Care became a medical clinic, with professionally-trained nurses providing pregnancy tests, limited obstetrical ultrasound, and STD testing and treatment for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. We also offer abortion recovery classes, a Mother Care Program through partnership with local churches, and the Early KinCare Resource Program, ensuring patients that need specific resources, such as housing, physicians, stop-smoking, addiction recovery, and employment or career training, know about and follow-up on the numerous agencies and organizations that can help them with their specific needs.

Natrona County and Beyond

True Care is based in Casper, but our outreach goes beyond the community. Our patients come to us from Douglas, Glenrock, and Midwest; we’ve even seen patients from as far away as Worland and Rawlins. Little did our founders know that, 30 years later, we would have eternal kingdom impact around the state and beyond. Our medical team has helped to train nurses from Cheyenne, Sheridan, Riverton, and other communities, and we’ve had staff from pregnancy centers in Laramie and Bozeman, Montana come to learn from our team members.

God has richly blessed True Care during the past 30 years. Thanks to our donors who share our vision to erase the perceived need for abortion, to the many volunteers who touch the hearts and lives of the women we serve, and to our dedicated staff, including highly skilled nurses, True Care is a steady rock for women experiencing unplanned pregnancy – women like Lisa. We look forward to what God will do in our community, our state, our region, and beyond in the next 30 years!
