Keep the Giving in Thanksgiving
For the past few weeks, many of us have focused on our blessings, giving thanks to the Lord who supplies us with all good things (James 1:17) -- that is the purpose of Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving was celebrated in various ways in the United States since the first one in 1621. It has been an official American holiday since 1863, established by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War at the request of writer/editor Sarah Josepha Hale. This special day is noted as a time of reflection, family, and feasting, a time to be mindful of blessings bestowed. Now, as Advent dawns and Christians prepare for the best holiday of all, the birth of our Savior, we remember the words of Jesus: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38)
Today is Cyber Monday, an unofficial day established by online retailers, competing against brick-and-mortar stores’ Black Friday. Tomorrow is GivingTuesday, established more than five years ago as a time to honor and assist non-profits. This will be second year True Care has taken part. Our goal is to raise $10,000 on this one-day, an amount that will be matched by a few other donors. You can help us reach that God-sized goal of $20,000 in one day!
For nearly 30 years, True Care has helped women who experience an unplanned pregnancy. Most of these patients are scared, unprepared, overwhelmed, and many consider abortion their only option. True Care gives to these women – we give them medical services; we give them pre-natal vitamins if they are pregnant; we give them pregnancy options education; we give them resources and the ability to pre-qualify for Medicaid; we give them parenting classes. The mission of True Care is to erase the perceived need for abortion in our community by effectively serving pregnant, at-risk women and turning their fears into confidence. We do this by giving all the above-mentioned assistance, and we do implement our mission and provide the assistance because our community gives.
True Care receives no government funding; donations from individuals, businesses, churches, and others help us help the women of Casper who may see abortion as their only option. By reaching these women, helping them understand their unborn is not “just a clump of cells,” we save lives. This year alone, more than 170 unborn lives have been saved from abortion. God works, and he works through people – people like you.
When tomorrow, November 28, arrives, we hope you’ll join us in our mission and help us reach that $20,000 total goal. Keep the “giving” in “Thanksgiving” by donating to True Care on #GivingTuesday! There are three ways to give:
