True Care Volunteers Fill Vital Roles

They build houses. They foster animals. They mentor kids. They mail letters, make phone calls, construct trails, plant trees, read to children, and do a variety of other types of work. At True Care, they meet with women who experience an unplanned pregnancy, helping them wade the waters of options and guiding those who plan to parent through the Baby & Me mentorship program. Who are these wonderful people? Volunteers!

Like all non-profit organizations, True Care relies on volunteers. Nearly 25 community-minded people of various ages assist True Care’s staff in different ways. Some serve as patient advocates, meeting one-on-one with women who come in for pregnancy tests and pregnancy options consultation. Others give their time in the Baby & Me program, mentoring first-time moms and dads as they prepare to welcome their babies. Others serve as follow-up specialists, contacting our patients by phone to see how they are doing. Some volunteers fill in as receptionist, greeting patients and other center guests when our staff receptionist is gone. Several others work behind-the scenes, helping with events, making photocopies, creating “mom packets” for graduates of our long-term programs, and helping with newsletters and other mailings. Many also serve as prayer warriors – prayers are a great need for those of us in the pregnancy-help ministry. There are many types of volunteers and volunteer opportunities at True Care.

Volunteers have served women of Casper for the 30+ years the center has been part of the community, meeting the needs of ladies experiencing unplanned pregnancies. A few volunteers have been with us for 20+ years. One of our volunteer advocates was recognized for her 10th year of service during our recent annual spring volunteer appreciation event. Our volunteers care – they care about the community and about True Care’s patients. They show compassion and commitment, to our services and to the women (and men) we serve.

April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month. We appreciate all of our volunteers – and we need more!  Can you give four hours a month to meet with or contact patients as an advocate or follow-up specialist? Could you help us with data entry after the Run/Walk for Life on June 2? Can you serve as a Vision Tour host for one of our upcoming center tours, bringing your Bible study companions or a small group of friends/family to learn about True Care? We need you, our patients need you! People who serve at True Care serve God. We are a faith-based ministry with people from all denominations, coming together for the common good: LIFE! Please consider joining us.

If you feel led by the Lord to volunteer, please contact Gayle at 472-2810 or email her at gayle@truecarecasper.org. If you’d like to help with data entry after the June Run/Walk for Life or host a future Vision Tour, contact Lilly at 472-2810 or by email at lilly@truecarecasper.org. Whether meeting one-on-one with patients, helping before, during or after events, or conducting some other volunteer service at True Care, your time and effort is needed – and greatly appreciated!
