Sanctity of Human Life Sunday Reminds Us There’s Still A Battle A’Ragin’

Eleven years after the U.S. Supreme Court decision known as Roe v. Wade, U.S. President Ronald Regan proclaimed the first Sanctity of Human Life Day, January 22 (the court decision occurred January 22, 1973). Today, churches and individuals around the country recognize the third Sunday of January as Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, a time to celebrate God's gift of life, commemorate the many lives lost to abortion, and commit to protecting human life at every stage.

This year’s Sanctity of Human Life Sunday takes place on January 20. This is also the day True Care launches the 2019 Baby Bottle Boomerang fundraiser. On a day to commemorate life, the Baby Bottle Boomerang also reminds us that we are in a battle for life. Since Roe v. Wade, some reports show nearly 61 million unborn children have been aborted, with over 7 million abortions done at Planned Parenthood clinics. Although many abortion clinics around the country have closed during the past few years, the vigor with which abortion activists attack pro-life pregnancy centers is on the rise. Tactics such as fake reviews, vicious attacks and demonstrations, and phony clients prevail across the U.S. and Canada. The battle for life continues to rage.

Yet, prolife people don’t need to rant and rail – we just need to stand firm. The Apostle Paul writes, “Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

At True Care, we see 250 to 300 women every year for pregnancy testing and options consultations; nearly half of them are accessed as abortion-minded or abortion-determined. Ninety-nine percent of the women who come through our doors have risk factors that make them at least vulnerable to abortion (being single, working a minimum-wage job, no insurance). Those assessed as abortion-minded or abortion-determined are often those who already have a plan to abort or who are being pressured to do so by someone close to them (boyfriend, husband, parent). These are the harder cases, but they are the ones who definitely need to know the truth about their unborn – that inside of them is a living human being created by God, not just some “clump of tissue.” And, they need to know there are options other than abortion, as well as community resources that can help them.

As Sanctity of Human Life Sunday approaches, let us remember we are in a battle for life. God is our leader and our guide; at True Care, we start every day in prayer – He is the head of this ministry, our General. We hope you will join us in the fight for life by picking up a baby bottle at your church this month and filling those “banks” with coin, cash, and/or checks. Your gifts empower women to choose life through information, education, and compassion.

You can also participate in the 2nd Annual Casper March for Life, hosted by Natrona4Life, on Saturday, January 26. The event will be held at 2 pm at City Park. Check out the organization’s Facebook page for more information:
