3 Ways to Take a Pro-Life Stand
As events throughout the country, including the national March for Life and Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, take place this week, we may ask ourselves a few questions: (1) Am I pro-life? and (2) How do I take a stand for this issue?
More than 100 people gathered in our community last Saturday for the Casper March for Life, hosted by Natrona4Life. Two of our patient advocates, Jenn Steffenhagen and Alexis Helenbolt, spoke at the event. Alexis, now chairperson of Natrona4Life and an ambassador for the national pro-life group Live Action, led the march and talked about her belief that pro-life is pro-love, for both women and their unborn. As a volunteer patient advocate at True Care, Alexis helps women navigate the waters of an unplanned pregnancy, educating our patients on their options and listening to their fears and concerns. Jenn is also a patient advocate. She started at True Care as a volunteer and became a part-time staff member a few years ago. Jenn also leads an Embrace Grace program at her church, an added support for these women with a focus on helping them discover who they are in Christ.
These two ladies, using their various gifts and passions, have taken a stand for life in similar yet also different ways. We can all do that.
If you are pro-life, here are three ways you can showcase your belief:
1. Pray. Prayers for events like the national, local, and regional marches for life are greatly needed. Prayers for people standing vigil outside of abortion clinics are vital. Prayers for people working and volunteering at pregnancy centers are also crucial. All these front-line endeavors need to be covered in prayer. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. - Ephesians 6:12
2. Participate. A march, a vigil, or other event needs participants. Casper may no longer have a Planned Parenthood, but Colorado does. The spring 40 Days for Life campaign begins next month – engage with vigils in Colorado where there are several Planned Parenthood clinics … and where many Wyoming women go for abortions. Plan to participate in Casper’s March for Life next year … or travel to another place for their march – many are taking place this week, including in Washington DC, a Walk for Life in San Francisco, and closer to home, in Cheyenne and Salt Lake City. You can also participate in True Care’s monthly Vision Tours, a one-hour-behind-the-scenes look at our ministry; invite work colleagues, friends, family, or your Bible study to a tour and introduce them to our life-affirming ministry. Call our office at 472-2810 to find out when the next tour is scheduled. How about kicking up your heels at the Cowboy Ball, a special, family-friendly event being held at Highland Park Church on February 1? This fun fundraiser is being hosted by UW Students for Life to benefit True Care and Heart2Heart pregnancies centers in Casper and Laramie. There are many ways to engage in events in our community and beyond! And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another…” - Hebrews 10:24 & 25
3. Provide. Whether you give of your time as a volunteer at True Care or another life-affirming group, donate to our organization or to another pro-life organization, gifts of your time and treasure help the pro-life movement in a myriad of ways. Our Baby Bottle Boomerang fundraiser is currently going on; fill a baby bottle with change, bills, even checks and bring to your church or True Care’s office mid-February. True Care can always use volunteers to meet one-on-one with our patients or to provide behind-the-scenes assistance, helping with mailings and events. We also accept donations of new baby clothing, diapers, blankets, and other supplies for our moms. Or, consider becoming a monthly sponsor, helping us meet the daily needs of our ministry’s mission: to erase the perceived need of abortion in our community by effectively serving pregnant, at-risk women, turning their fears into confidence for the future. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. – Philippians 2:4
Roe v. Wade occurred on January 22, 1973. During the past 47 years, millions of unborn lives have been lost to abortion, and thousands of women suffer from the trauma. Where do you stand? If you are pro-life and some of the above ideas resonate with you, go before the Lord and seek his guidance. He knows your heart and your gifts, and He will lead you in the direction He wants you to go regarding this important God’s heart-issue called LIFE.
See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. - Deuteronomy 30:15 & 16
