The Antidote of Prayer

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4: 6 & 7, New King James Version

America is under siege. The culture of death continues to spread as more states seek to provide taxpayer funded abortion and loosen laws on who can perform abortions. Late term abortions are permitted for no valid reason in states such as New York, California, and Colorado, and euthanasia is growing in acceptance in this country and is allowed in Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and a few other states; even Montana permits the procedure, depending on the circumstances and with a court order.

How can we combat this epidemic? Through prayer.

Throughout Scripture, we are reminded of the power of prayer. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (see John 11:38 – 44). Peter helped a lame man walk (see Acts 3:6 – 8). Ezekiel prophesied to dry bones that came to life. The Apostles experienced the Holy Spirit of the Lord on Pentecost. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 19:26, …”with God, all things are possible.”

As the 40 Days for Life spring campaign begins next week, let us remember prayer is powerful. Vigils will be held throughout the nation, including in Colorado where the majority of women from central Wyoming go for abortions. Vigils are planned in Fort Collins, Denver and its suburbs, Colorado Springs, Boulder (where the late-term abortionist Dr. Warren Hern has a clinic), and other cities.

If you can’t attend a prayer vigil in one of the Colorado communities, spend time with the Lord at home praying against abortion and euthanasia. Remember those life-warriors who will attend vigils. Remember the staff and volunteers at pregnancy centers, in Wyoming, Colorado, and throughout the nation who are battling for the lives of the unborn and their mothers. Pray for the women entering abortion clinics and those who work at such facilities, that their minds – and hearts – will be changed, that abortion workers would leave and more clinics will close. Pray for women to learn that True Care offers abortion pill reversal (APR) and that those who regret taking the abortion pill will call us to try to save their babies. Pray euthanasia doesn’t get a foothold in other states, including Wyoming, and for the Spirit to move in our country like never before.

Only God can change hearts, mend minds, and save souls, but we are His foot soldiers on this earth and “where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

There is a battle for life, and though we know the ultimate outcome – Jesus, the Victorious One, and His followers win the war – while we have breath on this earth, the enemy fights us for the hearts and souls of humankind. Let us put on the armor of God, (see Ephesians 6:10 – 18) and go into this fight. With that armor we are further instructed, “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints …

Prayer is communication with God. He listens. He cares. He loves and He moves. Let us be the loving light of Christ in this dark, death-focused world.

if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. -  2 Chronicles 7:14
