Join Us for a Global Day of Gratitude and Giving!
The COVID-19 health pandemic has taken more than 210,000 lives across the world, with more than 3 million confirmed cases. In the United States alone, more than 950,000 cases of the disease and nearly more than 53,000 deaths have been confirmed, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
In response to this global health crisis, the people at GivingTuesday have implemented a new program called GivingTuesdayNow. The virtual event takes place on Tuesday, May 5 and is penned as a day of gratitude and giving.
Millions of people are affected by this pandemic. Thousands of health care workers are giving their time and energy to treat infected people, some giving the ultimate sacrifice – their own lives. Grocery store workers, including clerks, stockers, and delivery drivers, are also on the front lines, keeping stores open so people can purchase food. Restaurant owners and managers have pivoted their businesses, providing take-out and delivery; other such businesses have closed. People from the hospitality industry to the energy business have lost jobs. Many of those are True Care’s patients.
Pivoting Our Business in Response to COVID-19
We are participating in next Tuesday’s GivingTuesdayNow. We, too, have pivoted our work, with our nurses conducting the initial part of a woman’s appointment by phone and video conference. Our nurses are also the ones completing the appointment when the patient comes in to the Center, thereby, limiting the number of people a patient is exposed to in the office. Our business office staff work only when patients are not at the center. We are currently working without volunteers and some of our staff work from home due to their own health concerns or those of family members. We have also adjusted our hours due to the virus. Many other pregnancy centers across the nation are doing similar things. Pro-life pregnancy centers provide essential, free services, such as pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, options education, and STD testing and treatment. A large number of abortion clinics remain open; therefore, pregnancy centers must, too.
Our Plans for #GivingTuesdayNow
Follow us on our Friends of True Care Facebook page during GivingTuesdayNow – we will give you an inside look at what some of our staff have been doing, those working at home and those at the center. We will also provide updates on patients we’ve seen, as well as the many things we are grateful for. We plan to showcase photos of some True Care babies, and we encourage you to share some of your favorite baby photos, of yourself, your children, your grandchildren, your nieces and nephews … whomever you’re proud of and want to show off! You will also have an opportunity to donate to True Care if you like.
We have stepped out of our box just a bit during the past few months. Not only are we meeting with patients in different ways, but we’ve provided grocery store gift cards for 12 of our patients in greatest need. We’ve also provided baby clothes, diapers, and wipes for patients, and on Saturday, May 9, we are planning a community diaper giveaway from 1 to 3 pm. So many people in our community are hurting due to job loss and/or illness, and this is one way we can meet some needs.
True Care has been part of the Casper community for more than 30 years. We’ve experienced great change in what we do and how we do it during those decades. Yet, the current health crisis is something none of us have experienced in our lifetime. We are grateful to still be able to serve our community, and we are grateful to everyone who comes alongside us. Please join us next Tuesday, May 5 for GivingTuesdayNow!
